This year, May 12 is National Military Spouse Appreciation Day. The holiday was created in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan. He hoped to draw attention to the support military spouses provide in keeping our military strong.
And with that, lots of organizations and businesses already committed to veterans and military personnel have stepped up. Many now extend offers to the military spouses and dependents of these heroes, as well. Here are just a few:
Best Buy. There are 138 Best Buy stores in Texas, and many of them give 10 percent discounts on store items to military families. The megastore chain also offers 50 percent off to military families for Geek Squad services, which could come in handy when you’re having computer issues.
YMCA. As part of the YMCA’s commitment to military families, it offers free and discounted memberships and child care. There are 26 YMCAs in the Lone Star State.
Armed Forces Eyewear. Need help with new eyewear? Armed Forces Eyewear provides discounted rates to veterans, military members and their families. Founded in Houston, this company functions as an online store.
Home Depot and Lowes. Both of these home improvement warehouses offer 10 percent discounts to veterans, military personnel and their families. To find a Texas Lowe’s near you, click here. To find a Texas Home Depot, click here.

In the U.S., there are more than 1,330,000 men and women serving in the military. And it’s estimated that more than half have husbands and wives, often working behind the scenes, making it all work. Veteran Energy thanks all of you for your hard work and commitment.
